Atlanta Braves Opening Day 40-Man Roster 2009

The Braves' roster for 2009 has one very notable omission with John Smoltz's departure to the Red Sox. However, the additions of Derek Lowe, Javier Vasquez and Kenshin Kawakami give hope to the idea that the Braves may finally find some stability in their rotation without having a notable ace likely to win 20 games.

Offensively, the Braves are looking for Chipper Jones and Brian McCann to repeat their form of 2008 and Jeff Francoeur to rediscover his own, whilst continuing their search for a power-hitting outfielder. Key to the Braves' chances are a strong start and dominating division rivals. They will have a chance to do both on opening day when they take on the world champion Phillies in Philadelphia.
