Atlanta Braves 2014 Opening Day 40-Man Roster
The Braves' roster for 2014 is more about building for the future than rebuilding. The offseason could be categorised as a tale of two halves. The first half was spent securing young talent on long-term deals. Jason Heyward, Freddie Freeman, Andrelton Simmons and Craig Kimbrel were all inked to long-term contract extensions. The second half was all about patching up an injury ravaged pitching rotation. Both Ervin Santana and Aaron Harang were acquired late into Spring Training to replace Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy, who had both undergone season-ending Tommy John surgery mid-way through the exhibition season. The rest of the roster was largely unchanged. Time will tell how badly the loss of Tim Hudson and Brian McCann proves to be though.
